(Correspondent Zhang Wei) On the morning of December 17, 2019, the undergraduate teaching meeting of Semester One of School Year 2019-2020 and the teaching management cadre training meeting of Wuhan University was held at the lecture hall of the Students’ Innovation Practice and Engineering Training Center. Vice-president Zhou Yezhong attended the meeting, as well as the university’s teaching supervision group, deputy deans of schools and departments, deputy secretary of the Department of Student Affairs, director of the undergraduate office and the teaching secretary. The meeting was hosted by Zhang Shaodong, Dean of the Undergraduate College.
Firstly, Zhao Jushan, associate dean of the Undergraduate College, introduced the work related to the final exam of Semester One in detail, and proposed new requirements for works related to the examinations, submission of grades, check of the school roll information of freshmen, selection of courses and change of majors in the next semester, graduation thesis, etc.
Later, Qiao Haoxue, associate dean of teaching in the School of Physics and Technology, and Bai Xiaoliu, director of the Undergraduate Management Office of the School of Information Management, exchanged experiences on collective grading and exam arrangements.
Then, Zhang Shaodong, Dean of Hongyi Honor College, reiterated the work of the final exam, the upgrade of the educational administration management system, the change of majors, the “Internet+” competition, the consultation meeting, the unified proposition, and the collective grading of papers, etc. He also elaborated the declaration of first-class undergraduate disciplines, the declaration of first-class curriculums, the course arrangements and teaching quality of Semester Three of School Year 2019-2020, which will be carried out later. Each college (department) is required to strictly target students’ academic requirements and increase the difficulty of teaching.
Finally, Vice President Zhou Yezhong stated in his conclusion that the report on the exchange of work experience between the School of Physics and Technology and the School of Information Management was very specific and practical. He suggested good experience and practices be promoted in the final examination. At the same time, three requirements were put forward for the later work: 1. Leaders and teachers of various colleges should place the priority to undergraduate education and teaching, starting with new measures for enrollment reform and continuously building influential and attractive disciplines. 2. All colleges must summarize and sort out the new challenges and new problems they have encountered since the implementation of the comprehensive reform of the two levels of the university for more than two years. 3. In order to allow students to focus on study and teachers focus on teaching, each school should do their best to fulfill their responsibility. He called on all teaching management cadres to be enthusiastic, to transform the advantage of talents into the advantage of talent training, and rebuild new glory of Wuhan University.
