Summing up the experience and starting a new page in undergraduate education

(Correspondent Lu Hanyu) At the beginning of the new semester, in order to implement the summary of the undergraduate teaching summary in the first half of 2019, and promote the continuous improvement of the quality of undergraduate talent training, the first semester of the 2019-2020 school year of Wuhan University, undergraduate teaching work arrangement and teaching management cadres training will be held in the lecture hall of the University Students Innovation Practice and Engineering Training Center. Vice-President Zhou Yezhong attended the meeting. The deputy head of the school teaching supervision group, the deputy dean of the undergraduate teaching, the deputy secretary of the school, the director of the undergraduate office and the teaching secretary attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Zhang Shaodong, the president of the undergraduate college.

Zhao Jushan, the deputy dean of the undergraduate college, first made detailed arrangements for the various faculty-related tasks in the new semester, and emphasized the new college English exams, the freshmen's course elective training, the beginning of the school's teaching management order, the third semester follow-up matters, some majors’ second elective within the school and other detailed requirements of related works. She summed up the issues that need to be paid attention to in the graduation review and internship training work, and informed the new requirements and new norms concerning the project management of undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship training programs and the authorization management of bachelor degrees.

In the exchange of teaching management experience, He Saixian, deputy dean of the School of Electronics and Information, and Wang Zhongquan, deputy secretary of the School of Surveying and Mapping, respectively gave presentations on the practices of their colleges in the third semester. They shared working experience in international summer school, competition-driven practice, practice-oriented education and advanced teaching method development.

Zhang Shaodong, Dean of the Undergraduate School, made arrangements for the six key tasks of undergraduate teaching in the new school year: Comprehensively summarize the three-semester teaching work, improve understanding, strengthen top-level design, increase the proportion of international curriculum and science and technology academic frontier courses, give play to the flexibility of the third semester and the complementary function of the long semester, and greatly enhance the teaching ability of teachers and learning ability of students; Focus on the challenges and countermeasures faced by the enrollment work, and call on all the colleges and departments to actively participate in the propaganda work and improve the enrollment skills; Apply postgraduate recommendation in strict accordance with national policies; Strengthen the understanding of the credit system reform and the cancellation of the school returning re-study policy; Emphasis on the "Two ten thousand Plan" (Building 10,000 national first-class undergraduate majors and 10,000 provincial first-class undergraduate majors) as the starting point, planning first-class undergraduate, first-class curriculum construction and top-notch talent training; Fully understand the key points of the Ministry of Education in 2019, strictly work on all aspects of undergraduate teaching development, and strengthen the construction of grassroots teaching organizations, teaching teams, and teaching centers.

Vice-president Zhou Yezhong made a concluding speech and pointed out that the order of undergraduate teaching work was stable in the first half of the year and did a lot of meaningful and important work. He spoke highly of the teacher's teaching ability training, the construction of general guidance courses, the curriculum construction achievements and the good start of the third semester teaching work. It is required to thoroughly summarize the three-semester teaching and prepare for the next three-term work plan next year, and learn from the experience, to do a better job.

Zhou Yezhong emphasized the next three important work initiatives. First, doing a good job in advocacy work, and form a consensus that the whole school attaches importance to enrollment work. All teachers and cadres must make due efforts for enrollment work; Practicing internal strength and building qualified disciplines and majors; Recognizing the trend of the new college entrance examination reform; Developing enrollment skills. Second, we must do a good job in the teaching order at the beginning of the school year, attach great importance to the new students' enrollment education, carry out professional cognition and identity change education, and focus on freshmen education, pay attention to details and reality. Third, the classroom is used as an important carrier and medium for creating “golden major”, “golden course” and “high-level talents”, transforming the knowledge classroom into a competency classroom, transforming the instilled classroom into a dialogue classroom, and transforming the learning-oriented class into a thinking-oriented class, transforming the knowledge-oriented class into a class which combines both knowledge and practice.
