(Correspondents: Lin Weihua, Yu Zhitao) The 5th National College Student Physics Experiment Competition was held in Nankai University on July 17-20. Our school won 2 first prizes and 1 third prize in the three groups of competitions: Basic A, Basic B and Comprehensive B, achieving the best grades in previous competitions. Zhang Yikuan won the first prize of the Basic A Group, Shen Yixin won the first prize of the Basic B Group, and Xing Jingwei and Kuang Yuting won the third prize of the Comprehensive B Group.

This competition was strongly supported by our Undergraduate Students’ College and the Laboratories and Equipment Management Office, which provide effective support in funding and opening laboratory projects. In preparation for the competition, the Physics Experiment Center of the School of Physical Science and Technology formed a coaching team consisting of four teachers, including Lin Weihua, Wu Yichu, Xiao Yi’an and Wang Hao, and a training team consisting of relevant laboratory teachers. Since September 2018, the Center carried out a number of event promotion and student recruitment with the assistance of the teachers of the Student Management Office of the School, carefully selected students and conducted systematic training. The achievement reflects the high emphasis of the School of Physical Science and Technology on the “three creations” work of undergraduates. Through systematic training, students’ innovation ability, practical ability and awareness of teamwork have been greatly improved.

It is reported that the National College Student Physics Experiment Competition is jointly organized by the College Physics Curriculum Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, the Higher Education Physics Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, the Physics Teaching Committee of the Chinese Physical Society, and the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Colleges and Universities. This Biennial is the highest level national competition in physics. In this grand competition, more than 100 teachers and 214 students from 56 colleges and universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China and Wuhan University, participated in the competition.
