(Correspondent Guo Xianxing) Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of national- and provincial-level first-class undergraduate disciplines in 2019. All 31 undergraduate disciplines declared by Wuhan University have been approved for the national-level first-class disciplines and all 10 undergraduate disciplines have been approved for the provincial-level first-class disciplines.

To meet the national strategic needs, Wuhan University actively adapts to the needs of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial change, and actively promotes the updating and transformation of traditional disciplinary concepts, contents, standards, methods and technologies, and the cross-fusion between majors. The university deepens the construction of new engineering, new medicine and new liberal arts under the guidance of the combination of research training and education, the combination of industries and education, the combination of science, liberal arts and medicine, and the combination of science, engineering and medicine. Meanwhile, with the Ministry of Education’s implementation of the “Double Ten Thousand Plan” for the building of first-class undergraduate disciplines as an opportunity, the university actively carries out discipline construction, reforms the curriculum setting, updates the teaching content, further optimizes the structure layout of disciplines, and gradually establishes a dynamic adjustment mechanism for disciplines.

It is reported that in 2019, a total of 9,483 disciplines declared by 1,059 universities nationwide for the first-class undergraduate disciplines, covering 85% of undergraduate colleges and universities. After the review of the competent department of colleges and universities, and the review and voting of the Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education identified 4,054 majors as national-level first-class undergraduate disciplines this year. After the review and recommendation of various provincial-level administrative departments of education, 6,210 provincial-level first-class undergraduate disciplines were identified.
