ChinaNews (reported by Li Jin) The activities for inquiry based learning of high school students in autumn are officially started in Wuhan University. Recently, Wuhan University has organized the “activities for inquiry based learning of high school students and principals”, in which more than 380 principals and teachers from more than 200 high schools in 22 provinces across the country, and the admissions officer of more than 50 universities including Nanjing University, University of Science and Technology of China, Southeast University, and Lanzhou University attended.
The vice president Zhou Yezhong delivered a welcome speech at the exchange and sharing conference, thanking all high schools which provided high-quality students and participated in the conference for their great kindness to Wuhan University and their support for student recruitment of Wuhan University. He introduced Wuhan University “with the longest history, the profoundest historical and cultural significance, the most comprehensive disciplines, the most influential innovation, and the most beautiful campus”. The vice president Zhou Yezhong, focusing on the idea of running school of “talent cultivation as the base, undergraduate education as the root”, the education concept of “leading talent education by education for growth", the teaching concept of "solid foundation, interdiscipline, encouragement for innovation and standing out", the motivation concept of "inspiring teaching and learning" and the aim of "student-centered development", detailed the talent training system for undergraduates of Wuhan University. Professor Li Jianzhong, director of the Center for General Education, gave a talk on "how we grow, and how we know fate", describing the concept of general education and the education and teaching practice in Wuhan University in detail.
Principals and teachers of the high schools learnt through practice in the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Information Science, and the Faculty of Medicine in the inquiry based learning activity. They, through lectures by experts in various disciplines, lectures and demonstration by excellent young and middle-aged teachers, visits to the laboratories of key disciplines and featured venues, had a deep understanding of discipline training, forefront of the industry and career prospects, and experienced the vivid teaching and teaching & research environment. The faculties also arranged students who came from those high schools to share their experience.
In the “Growth of Wuhan University – Excellent Student Quality Show”, the outstanding students and teams shared their academic studies at Wuhan University, innovation and entrepreneurship, international exchanges, employment and aid education experience. Exciting activities held by the Memory Association, debate teams and other characteristic communities were performed on the spot, showcasing the elegant demeanour and colorful college life of students of Wu University.
This activity is one of a series of inquiry based learning activities for high school students organized and carried out by Wuhan University in autumn, with the purpose of strengthening the relationship between colleges and high schools, further improving the service on receiving high school students for inquiry based learning, and promoting high school students to understand the disciplines, majors and study life, etc. comprehensively, and letting more outstanding students into the most beautiful universities to receive the best education and living a beautiful life.
It is learnt that Wuhan University will hold the "activity of inquiry based learning day for major exploration of high school students" on November 17, to promote high school students to set specific goals, establish lofty aspirations, stimulate potential, scientifically plan their route to colleges and get well prepared for college entrance examination through career experience activities and in-depth inquiry based learning.
