(Correspondents Cao Li and Yu Zhitao) On August 31, the 11th National College Students' Science and Technology Thesis Competition of Surveying and Mapping in Southern China was held in Wuhan. Among the 30 papers selected by the College of Surveying and Mapping and the College of Resources and Environmental Sciences, 26 won prizes, including 8 special prizes, 10 first prizes and 8 second prizes.
A total of 504 papers were received from 83 universities in China, and 460 qualified papers were selected by the organizing committee after examination and duplicate checking. Among them, 70 were on engineering survey and 3D laser scanning, 76 were on geodetic survey and navigation and positioning, 149 were on photogrammetry and remote sensing, and 165 were on cartography and geographic information. Then, the experts were divided into four groups to evaluate the preliminary evaluation results seriously, and finally awarded 47 special prizes, 94 first prizes and 181 second prizes.
It is reported that the National College Students' Science and Technology Thesis Competition of Surveying and Mapping is one of the three major competitions of the "Two Committees" of Surveying and Mapping Education (Surveying and Mapping Teaching Advisory Board, Ministry of Education &Education Commission Chinese Society for Surveying and Mapping). The other two competitions are the Young Teachers' Teaching Competition and the College Students' Skills Competition. The competition aims to improve undergraduate students' scientific thinking and writing ability of scientific papers. It is also an important embodiment and action model of "People-Oriented" in higher education.
