Independent Enrollment in 2015

According to the relevant policies of the state on deepening examination and admission system reform and the practical conditions of Wuhan University, the university will carry out independent enrollment in 2015, with the aim of recruiting excellent students with specialties and innovation potential for some fundamental subject programs (including experimental program for outstanding students training).

I. Requirements for Application

Students who meet the requirements for application of college entrance examination in 2015, have good character, good mental and physical health, good performance in relevant subjects, distinctive specialty in one of the 10 fields: literature, history, philosophy, traditional Chinese culture, ideology and politics, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science, and have certain innovation potential, may submit application for admission.

Priority will be given to students who apply for the following majors and meet the corresponding conditions:

Experimental Class of Chinese Language and Literature or Human Science, Educational Base Class of History, Educational Base Class of Philosophy, Traditional Chinese Culture Class of Hongyi Academy

1. Students who have been awarded second class prize or above level in the national final of New Concept Composition Contest or Creative Writing Competition , or first class prize or above level in the final of Composition Contest for Chucai Cup during high school;

2. Students who have been awarded winning prize, second prize or above level in the final of National English Contest for Innovation during high school;

3. Students who have won a prize in the final of China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest, the Awarding Program for Future Scientists, or the International Science and Engineering Fair with award-wining work (subject) in the field of humanities and social sciences during high school;

4. Students who have published a literature work or academic paper in the field of humanities and social sciences on publication of provincial level or above independently as the first author, or have officially published works in the field of humanities and social sciences on a publication house during high school;

5. Students who have outstanding performance or insightful views in relevant fields supported by authentic and detailed documents.

Educational Base Class of Mathematics, Educational Base Class of Physics, Educational Base Class of Chemistry, Educational Base Class of Life Science or Educational Base Class of Biotechnology, Computer Science

1. Students who have been awarded a first prize or above level in provincial contest of National Olympiad in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Information during high school;

2. Students who have been awarded two or more second class prizes or above level in provincial contest of different subjects in National Olympiad in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Information during high school;

3. Students who have won a prize in the final of China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest, the Awarding Program for Future Scientists, or the International Science and Engineering Fair with award-wining work (subject) related to the major the student applies for during high school;

4. Students who have published papers related to the major the student applies for on professional publications of provincial level or above as the first author, or have official published works related to the major the student applies for as the first author during high school, or have obtained a national invention patent license related to the major the student applies for as the first author during middle or high school;

5. Students who have outstanding performance or insightful views in relevant fields supported by authentic and detailed documents.

Ideological and Political Education

Students who have shown outstanding potential in philosophy, speculation, social works or ideology and politics during high school (relevant supporting materials shall be provided).

II. Methods of Application

Eligible students shall log into the Independent Enrollment Application System for Pilot Universities to apply online (http://gaokao.chsi.com.cn/zzbm/) between 10:00 March 5 and 16:00 March 20, 2015. Students shall select 1 major from Chinese Language and Literature, Experimental Class of Human Science, Educational Base Class of Education, Educational Base Class of Philosophy, Traditional Chinese Culture Class of Hongyi School, Ideology and Politics, Educational Base Class of Mathematics, Educational Base Class of Physics, Computer Science, Educational Base Class of Chemistry, Educational Base Class of Life Science, and Educational Base Class of Biotechnology, in which the majors of Chinese Language and Literature, Experimental Class of Human Science, Educational Base Class of Education, Educational Base Class of Philosophy, Traditional Chinese Culture Class of Hongyi School, and Ideology and Politics are limited to students of liberal arts, and the other majors are limited to students of science.

Students shall upload the electronically scanned copy of application documents to the application system before the deadline for application. The application documents shall include:

1. Application Form for Independent Enrollment of Pilot Universities (printed through the system after successful online application with signature of the student and stamp of the high school of the student).

2. Records of performance and scores of each subject during high school, scores of tests of academic proficiency and overall quality comments (including records, typical factual material and relevant certification that record the outstanding performance of the student in moral character, academic level, mental and physical health, art attainment and social practice) and other factual materials that reflect the growth and development of the student.

3. Copies of various certificates that meet the priority conditions, original copy of supporting documents issued by high school, copies of works or academic achievements and other materials that show the specialty in certain subject or innovation potential of the student; Students who are CPC member and apply for the major of ideological and political education shall also provide the original certification of CPC member issued by CPC organization.

The documents uploaded to the application system are required to be authentic, detailed, accurate and clear. All documents shall be stamped by the high school of the applicant. Except for the original copy of published works, no other application materials in paper form will be accepted. Original copy of published works (indicated with the name and application number of the student) shall be mailed or brought to the Enrollment Office of Wuhan University (No. 299 Bayi Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, Post Code: 430072) before 12:00 March 23, 2015 (subject to the postmark on the receipt day). Failure to complete application or nonconforming application materials will result in invalid application.

The high school (entity unit) of the applicant or the high school where the applicant graduates from, relevant social groups or experts in relevant fields may provide recommendation materials with real name to the university for reference in qualification review. The procedures for recommendation are: after the student fill in the recommendation information in the application system, the application system will send an email to the recommending person or head of the recommending organization; the recommending person or head of the recommending organization may download the template of Recommendation Letter according to the requirements specified in the email and fill in the Recommendation Letter personally, and then upload the scanned copy of the Recommendation Letter to the application system. The Recommendation Letter should be completed by the recommending person or head of the recommending organization in person in strict accordance with the template so as to present the specialty in certain subject and innovation potential of the recommended student in a comprehensive and detailed manner. In case of recommendation by an organization, the organization shall collectively study and publicize the recommendation in advance, and shall stamp the Recommendation Letter. One Recommendation Letter shall be completed for only 1 recommended student. The recommending person (organization) shall be responsible for the authenticity of the recommendation materials it provides.

III. Qualification Review

The related departments will establish a qualification review group which mainly consists of experts in the subject to review the qualification of the students based on their application documents and to determine the list of students who have passed qualification review. The university will finish qualification review before the end of April 2015, and will publicize the list of students who have passed qualification review on the website for undergraduate enrollment of Wuhan University as well as the Transparent Admission platform of the Ministry of Education. Students who have got no objection to the publicity will be qualified to take the independent admission examination of the university in 2015.

IV. Examination

The independent admission examination mainly tests the academic ability and potential in innovative thinking, including basic knowledge of certain subjects, ability in analyzing and solving problems, ability in innovative thinking, ability in divergent thinking, ability in imagination and language competence. The examinations will be conducted by relevant departments on June 14 and June 15, 2015 at Wuhan University. The detailed plan and relevant requirements will be publicized separately.

Students who are qualified to take the examination shall log into the online application system to pay the examination fee (120 Yuan, in compliance with the document E.J.F.[2009] No. 331 issued by Hubei Provincial Price Bureau) through online bank and print the Admission Ticket. The university does not provide other means for payment.

Students shall come to the university to register with their own ID card (or interim ID card, other credentials are not accepted), Admission Ticket (printed on their own after payment), and original copies of relevant certificates and works. Failure to register as required will be deemed as a waiver of the examination. Students are only permitted to take the examination of the major for which they are qualified.

V. Admission

1. The number of admitted students in independent enrollment shall not exceed 5% of the total number in the undergraduate enrollment plan of the university in 2015.

2. The university upholds the principle of recruiting only outstanding students and the principle of best or none, and will determine the list of students admitted by independent enrollment for each major based on the enrollment plan and the examination results of the students. The list will be publicized on the website for undergraduate enrollment of Wuhan University, provincial enrollment and examination department as well as the Transparent Admission platform of the Ministry of Education before June 22, 2015.

3. Students who obtain admission qualification of independent enrollment may report the intention for independent enrollment of Wuhan University according to the relevant rules of the enrollment and examination department of the provincial region where the student is from, if the score of the student in College Entrance Examination (including supplementary score) reaches a certain score above the admission control level for the first class undergraduate college in the provincial region where the student is from (hereinafter referred to as first class admission level) (which equals to 50% of the difference between the lowest score admitted to the university in the provincial region in 2014 and the first class admission level, and shall be rounded. For admission level and requirements of the university in each province, municipality and autonomous region, see the appendix) (click here to view appendix), and the student meet the other requirements for admission, the university will recruit the student in the major for which the student has taken the independent enrollment examination.

4. For some a few excellent students with extremely outstanding specialty in certain subject or innovation potential, the department the student applies for may recruit such student as exception after admission procedures including real-name recommendation by experts in the department, review by the department, collective study by the university, publicity, and approval by the college admission commission of the provincial region where the student is from, and the requirement for the score in college entrance examination (including supplementary score) for the student can be lowered to 20 points below the first class admission level of the provincial region where the student is from.

VI. Notes

1. Priority will be given to students from central and western China and rural areas under the same conditions during qualification review and when determining list of admitted students.

2. Students who are admitted by independent enrollment must not transfer out from the department to which they are admitted.

3. If a student is found of any rule-breaking conducts such as fraud or other dishonest conducts such as cheating, the examination results and admission qualification of such student will be cancelled once the conducts are confirmed according to relevant regulations of the country and Wuhan University, the student status of such student (if any) will be revoked, and such conducts will be reported to the enrollment and examination department of the provincial region where the student is from. Vacancies will not be supplemented.

VII. Supervision Mechanism

The Supervision Department of Wuhan University will participate in and supervise the whole process of the enrollment.
